Phoenix Race Weekend: Speed by Day, Scottsdale After Dark
NASCAR's fall weekend at Phoenix Raceway, October 16–18, is three days of premium hospitality in the desert — and the perfect reason to make Scottsdale the rest of the story.
Why This Weekend Matters
From October 16 to 18, Phoenix Raceway hosts the NASCAR fall weekend — the Craftsman Truck Series and O'Reilly Auto Parts Series on Friday and Saturday, and the Cup Series on Sunday the 18th. For most of the crowd it is a race. For a certain kind of visitor it is a long weekend of infield suites, sponsor hospitality, private jets into Scottsdale Airpark and dinners that run late in the desert air.
That second weekend is the one worth planning.
Make a Weekend of It
Stay in Scottsdale, not by the track. The Phoenician, the Four Seasons at Troon North, Sanctuary on Camelback or the Global Ambassador give you mornings on the golf course and evenings that begin with a drink watching the mountains change colour. Dinner is a steakhouse town at its best — Dominick's, Steak 44, Mastro's City Hall — with Café Monarch or FnB when the night wants something more considered.
After dinner, Old Town Scottsdale is compact and lively: cocktails at Kazimierz or the Rusty Spur if you want the local version, Maya or Riot House if you want the room to move. The track is forty minutes away and Sunday afternoon is spoken for; everything else is yours.
